The illegal immigrant dilemma CAN be resolved

The illegal immigrant dilemma CAN be resolved to the satisfaction of BOTH sides so long as each side is willing to give in a little.

The PRO-immigration people MUST give up all fast-tracks AND slow-tracks to citizenship which do NOT include the aliens' returning to their country of origin before obtaining citizenship.  They MUST accept the fact that any temp-worker permit must be coupled with a return to their country of origin after their time period is up.  This will eliminate the appearance of amnesty which most, though not all, opponents of immigration despise and visualize with INTENSE anger. (Showing up at a U.S. consulate in their country of origin after their visa, green card, or temp-worker permit expires should be a requirement.)

The PRO-immigration people MUST understand that our increased sensitivity to the needs of immigrants requires that they give up all objections to walls, fences, airborne surveillance and border enforcement against ILLEGALS.

The Pro-immigration people MUST give up on the idea of taxpayer-funded welfare; the ONLY taxpayer-funded services they could be eligible for would be EMERGENCY medical care.

The PRO-immigration people MUST accept the fact that our general population will treat them with greater sympathy and kindness if they make a concerted effort to learn and use English, the history of free-market capitalism and to appreciate that the profusion of jobs available in our country is because of the (comparative) LACK of government interference in the decision-making of entrepreneurs.

The PRO-immigration people (along with our own State Department) MUST put pressure on their home countries to eliminate the long waiting-times for permitting for new businesses and property purchases and inadequate protections for private property and enforcement of contracts, and to destroy EVERY bureaucratic impediment (and thereby, opportunities for corruption, graft and demands for bribes) to their own people who want to start their own businesses, and tell them to emulate the Hong Kong of the 1950’s and '60s.

The ANTI-immigration people MUST give up on their objections to temp-worker permits since those are the ONLY way to ID the aliens with biometric identification records, to prevent them from voting, and to have the immigrants willing to even come forward in the first place.

The ANTI-immigration people MUST face the fact that what makes the illegals illegal IS THE WOEFULLY INADEQUATE LEGAL IMMIGRATION QUOTAS of all types, whether for student visas, green cards or whatever, and the woefully inadequate immigration services and screeners.   Also getting rid of most of the paperwork and bureaucratic red tape now demanded for the hiring of servants even by middle-class families will go a long way toward freeing up the time and energy of more of our middle-class entrepreneurs who make the pie bigger for us all.

The ANTI-immigration people must dig deep to find a smidgeon of kindness and give up on visualizing all illegal aliens as violent criminals except the ones who really ARE violent criminals.  Many are honest simpletons simply following the advice of the leaders of their home countries who say it's okay to invade us.  After they go back to their home countries they should be able to apply for re-entry to the U.S., either for citizenship or for another temporary worker status.

The ANTI-immigration people MUST face the fact that hostility to the immigrants will only serve to permanently alienate the Latino population which, percentage-wise, is growing faster than theirs is.

IDs for Non-Citizens

ONLY NON-CITIZENS SHOULD HAVE A STANDARDIZED CARD OF ANY KIND.

Whether it's only a stop-gap OR part of a longer-term solution,  IDENTIFYING the 8 to 13 million illegals already here and keeping them from voting is the first huge challenge -- and a MUST; even after the welfare-state (which attracts the moocher-types) is disassembled, and even if the requirements that social security, workmans comp and other red tape is lifted for maids, gardeners and other domestics (which incents the homemakers to avoid reporting anything to anyone).

Anyway, I'm TOTALLY AGAINST guest worker drivers' licenses or I.D. cards UNLESS they LOOK TOTALLY DIFFERENT from real citizens' licenses, and UNLESS they SAY IN BIG BOLD LETTERS:

* * * T E M P O R A R Y   P E R M I T * * *
NON-CITIZEN TEMPORARY WORKER
MUST LEAVE THE U.S. AND REPORT TO THE U.S. CONSULATE
IN  THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN NO LATER THAN (DATE:            )
>>>>>>> Search THOROUGHLY at ALL
border and transportation checkpoints.
>>  MAY NOT VOTE.  <<
MAY NOT RECEIVE FOOD STAMPS OR OTHER GOVT. WELFARE.
MAY NOT RECEIVE TAX REFUNDS, CREDITS OR PREBATES
OR TAXPAYER-FUNDED NON-EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE.
NOTIFY THE INS IF THE SPONSORING EMPLOYER OR
ADDRESS ON THE REVERSE SIDE IS WRONG
OR IF CONVICTED OF A FELONY
OR IF STILL IN THE U.S. AFTER THE ABOVE DATE.
Furthermore, EVERY congressman and Senator, Republican OR Democrat, should be angry enough about vote fraud, real or imagined -- to get on board to push for uniform voting requirements for FEDERAL offices nationwide, including photo ID and a signature affirming citizenship and voting only once -- with penalties for PERJURY AS WELL AS VOTING LAW VIOLATIONS.

And now, more food for thought from off the wall in left field we have a weird, quirky, Darwinian view of immigration here.
